About the service
The Lighthouse is a specialist service for people over the age of 18, living in Brighton and Hove who are experiencing Personality Disorder and Emotional Intensity problems. Southdown provides the service in partnership with the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and Mind in Brighton and Hove.
The aim is to offer individuals long-term support during recovery, an opportunity to develop healthy attachments and relationship skills, to learn effective strategies to manage emotional intensity and to practise community participation and peer support.
The Lighthouse provides a range of therapeutic interventions, from psychologically informed clinical interventions, therapeutic groups and occupational therapy, to general support and activity groups both at the centre and community-based.
The Southdown recovery team work alongside volunteers and peer supporters to deliver therapeutic activity based groups.
The groups at The Lighthouse offer the opportunity to take part in activities that:
• Help to develop a meaningful routine
• Try new things, explore interests and experience joy
• To socialise with others and develop relationship skills
• To become part of the community of Lighthouse
• To learn ways to manage emotions
• Build self confidence
We also provide support sessions to work with you to develop an individual care plan identifying what you would like to focus on and achieve during your time with us. We will meet with you regularly to see how you are getting on and to provide advice and support with your diagnosis and how it impacts all aspects of your life, working at your pace to help archive your goals.
Because The Lighthouse is a community, members are encouraged to attend and be involved in regular community meetings, service development groups and peer support as part of their treatment.

The service is here to support adults who live in Brighton and Hove who have a diagnosis of Personality Disorder.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) Statement
In light of the Coronavirus pandemic, we are adhering to the social distancing advice set out by the Government. With that in mind we have had to make the decision to close The Lighthouse for all groups and face-to-face support. We are exploring other ways we can offer support via phone or Skype and we are keeping our clients updated via email.
We recognise that this may be a worrying time for our clients and we are working to maximise the safest way to continue to provide support.
